24/08/18Back to School – Eyewear For Kids

Summer has come and gone in the blink of an eye and the kids will soon be back at school. With September arriving next week, back to school shopping is in full swing. Not forgetting eye tests and glasses, be sure to check your child’s specs are ready for the new academic year.

We understand that many children don’t enjoy wearing glasses but with the right frame and good optical care, this should be a thing of the past. We stock a variety of styles from discrete lightweight titanium wire to bold acetate frames. Many children’s frames simply don’t fit properly and end up sliding down their nose. This results in them not looking through the optical centers of the lenses which can be detrimental to their vision and concentration. We are meticulous in our attention to detail when dispensing frames to young children, ensuring they fit well and are suitable for their active lives.

Our favourite eyewear brand for kids has to be Lindberg Kids. Danish brand Lindberg are known for providing flexibility and strength in all their frames. They have a strong heritage in innovative design for children, particularly in the Air Rim range. Lindberg frames have no solders or screws. This makes them great for kids who are always on the go. Designs by Lindberg Kids are minimalist and lightweight so children often forget they are even wearing them. They look really cute too!

Our newest brand for children is Cubs by Wolf Eyewear as seen here on Jonah, our youngest brand ambassador. We love Cubs for their attention to detail with frame fittings. Children require a different bridge design to adults as their noses are not yet fully grown. Cubs offer frames specifically for small young faces. They are also keen craftsman, using only top quality materials that will tough-out wear from even the most lively kids! With frames in a wide range of colours and shapes, Cubs by Wolf Eyewear suit children of all ages from the first days of school right up to the teenage years. Whatsmore, their frames are very affordable making them great value.

Sometimes even the best fitting glasses aren’t the solution for young action packed lives. Contact lenses may be a good alternative for sports and energetic children. Our Optometrist Joseph has a special interest in contact lenses and has lots of experience in fitting young people. He has expertise in Myopia Management for which specially designed contact lenses can be prescribed. These are proven to reduce the progression of short-sightedness in children. You can read more about this in our previous blog, The Myopia Epidemic.

As well as having a great choice of kids frames, we offer all young people under the age of 21 free standard plastic lenses (subject to prescription) with any new frame purchased. We also do private eye tests for children so if your child is due for a test you can book online or give us a call to arrange an appointment. With so many options to choose from, we will make back to school specs shopping easy and stress-free, so drop in and see us in store.
