Chanel

Chanel is a brand synonymous with luxury, perfection and uniqueness. At the heart of the French Haute-Couture and Pret-a-Porter culture, Chanel products are differentiated by their outstanding quality.

Born in 1883, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel became well known for creating ladies wear that reflected her rebellious style. She introduced a comfort and practicality that liberated the women of her generation. This legacy was revived by Karl Lagerfeld, who began as Creative Director in 1984, and launched the eyewear collection in 1999. By using different materials he has created a style in keeping with Chanel’s early philosophy, but suitable for a modern audience.

Glamorous, precious, elegant, classic, refined – these are all words that describe the fashion world of this renowned luxury brand.

Every collection has a story centred on a key Chanel symbol.  The Chaine collection was inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s childhood in a convent where the nuns wore keys on a chain belt. From this came her first handbag with a chain shoulder strap “to free women’s hands”.  The Chaine follows into the eyewear collection featuring chain temples with twisted leather. The Matelasse/Quilted collection is derived from the quilted pattern of horse blankets. She first applied this to her famous handbag, the 2.55 which remains an emblem of the brand today. The quilt is integrated widely into the frame designs specifically the temples/sides in a variety of textures including lamb skin leather, frosted nylon and rubber. La Perle collection reflects Mademoiselle Chanel’s love of pearls. She adored pearls in all sizes for the way they illuminate the skin. She featured them across many of her designs including earrings, shoe straps and they are now a favourite in the frames and sunglasses.

The Chanel customer is elegant and strong, and seeks cutting-edge design alongside lasting quality and exclusivity. If you love Chanel, you will love the eyewear collection as proudly presented by Claudine Ickeringill Opticians, Chichester.
