17/02/25New dry eye service a success
Our Rexon Eye, QMR in house dry eye service has now been running for 18 months and we’re excited to share the results with you. We have been running the service since June 2023 and hard data collected in practice now shows the real difference it is making to our clients eyes. It is great news, for you and for us.
A detailed audit of the clients who have enjoyed the service so far shows a 51 per cent improvement in symptoms and a lasting benefit. We are thrilled that our investment in state of the art machinery and experienced staff is delivering what we hoped and our patients are coming away reassured and more comfortable.
Prior to our investment in 2023, we saw every day how much misery dry eyes causes, and how hard it is to combat. So in the Spring of that year, we led the way in the UK by investing in the Rexon Eye QMR machine. This is the central part of our dry eye service. In addition to this investment, six months ago our clinical director Sam joined us, bringing the essential dry eye and hospital eye service, human touch and expertise to complement the machine.
A steady flow of clients have enjoyed the service since, which includes four 1 hour appointments at weekly intervals followed by 6 monthly or yearly individual sessions on an ongoing basis depending on the severity of their symptoms.
The treatment not only feels great initially, our clients have reported the ongoing benefits, often describing how their eyes feel fresher and brighter. In an effort to quantify that feeling, at each appointment we use a tool called the OSDI survey to score symptoms and measure progress. The severity of an individuals’ dry eye symptoms is recorded and we then give them a score out of 100. Our latest audit looked at the results from our first 58 patients through the service. On average people’s symptoms have improved by 51 per cent by the end of the treatment. That is a big difference. We are also seeing clinically significant changes in the quality of people’s tears and the health of their eyes’ surface.
The first clients are now coming back for their top up treatments and we can see clearly that even before the top up treatment people’s scores are still better than before the initial treatment.
With this data, we know and can prove that our dry eye service works, and it keeps on working. Not a dry eye in the house!
