Cutler and Gross is a luxury eyewear brand founded by two optometrists, Graham Cutler and Tony Gross. In 1969 they opened their flagship store in Knightsbridge where they started creating their own handcrafted bespoke frames. Cutler and Gross are amongst a few pioneering eyewear labels to make eyewear a fashion accessory.
In 1982 the collection was shown at Paris Fashion Week and since then, the brand’s classic, iconic frames have become known and demanded by a wide international audience. Artists, architects and designers have provided the brand’s core custom.
Today, the frames and sunglasses are designed in the London headquarters and handmade in their own factory in Italy. It takes 6 weeks and 42 intricate steps to produce a pair of Cutler and Gross frames. From polishing to fitting the hinges, every step is done by hand. Rather than the logo becoming a gaudy promotional feature, Cutler and Gross frames keep a quiet elegance about them, a firm yet graceful classicism.
Cutler and Gross Eyewear can be seen on catwalks in London, Paris and New York as well as in Vogue, Elle, GQ, Vanity Fair, Esquire, The Financial Times and Forbes.
Celebrities wearing the brand include Keira Knightley, Michael Fassbender, Bill Nighy, Tinie Temper, Lily Allen, Victoria Beckham , Rihanna, Cheryl Cole, David Gandy, and even Marc Jacobs, himself! The list goes on…..
The following quote by Graham Cutler sums up the brand:
“My idea of design is a bit old-fashioned. It should be practical, functional then look good – in that order”
