American fashion designer Tom Ford became well known during his years as creative director for Gucci. Following his departure, in 2005 he began designing under his own name, originally specialising in beauty products and accessories before moving on to menswear and ladies wear. The Tom Ford brand is now an internationally recognised icon of high fashion.
Tom Ford has described “the Tom Ford customer as international, cultured, well travelled”. For females, he added “strong women, … intelligent women who know their own style”.
The eyewear collection is designed to represent a timeless elegance. Offering frames for men and women, Tom Ford uses a combination of metal and acetate materials to create a bold yet elegant sense of sophistication. The collection makes a proud statement whilst maintaining extraordinary levels of comfort and finesse. The core collection features the distinctive metal T at the temples making them instantly recognisable by followers of the brand. The cross front is another signature that may typically be seen in the sunglasses designs. By transforming vintage inspired shapes into contemporary silhouettes, Tom Ford has become the first true luxury eyewear brand of the 21st century.
Tom Ford eyewear is one of the best selling eyewear collections across the world but remains exclusive, only being sold at boutiques and high-end opticians. A hot favourite with Hollywood’s elite, the sunglasses are also featured in the James Bond movies. Daniel Craig as 007 cut a dash in Skyfall with the Marko aviator sunglass, and dazzled in Spectre wearing the Snowdon. For his own film, A Single Man, Tom Ford designed a classic style Tom No.5 that was made iconic by Colin Firth. Other ambassadors of the brand include Jeff Goldblum, Hugh Grant, Angelina Jolie and Kim Kardashian-West.
